Cúpla Focal le Colleen (Irish Language Lesson) – Part 1

June 12th | 14:10 – 14:25 CET (GMT+2)

Colleen has always had a lot of love for the Irish language and found it particularly useful when on holidays and she wanted to gossip with her friends unbeknownst to the locals.

Over the course of the online European Conference she will cover the basics such as how to greet and thank someone in Irish.

She will then move onto the more important things and the topic of drinks will be covered and the famously know ‘Sláinte’ (cheers).

Irish had some wonderful proverbs, known as a ‘seanfhocal’ and she will teach you some of the nicest ways to profess your love for someone but also how to curse them.

While we don’t expect you to leave the online European Conference a fluent Irish speaker, we hope you will have enough to answer a few questions at a table quiz and wish your friends good luck before a debate!

Coleen Baxter

JCI Ireland

Colleen is Galway native with a bachelors degree in media through Irish from the National University of Ireland Galway.

While in college she hosted her own radio show through Irish for two years and worked for the Irish TV programme ‘Ros Na Rún’ as a script and visual editor and occasional on-set extra.

Her passion for people brought her to the hospitality industry where she spent nearly 10 years working front of house, as an events manager and sales executive.
She recently left the hospitality industry to work for the Galway Chamber of Commerce as events and membership coordinator.

Colleen’s interest in personal development lead her to JCI in 2018 where she quickly joined the local board as PR Officer before stepping up as local deputy President in 2019 and she is now the JCI Galway Local President for 2020.
